COGNOSCENTI
2010 saw the official launch of Cognoscenti, our new supporters' group – both a friends’ organisation and a club for those who are passionate about opera. Many of our friends already participate in COG performances in one way or another and provide us with much needed financial support. We also know that all our supporters are knowledgeable about opera and enjoy it immensely.
Apart from COG performances and our season launch party, Cognoscenti will be invited to extra events, for example to go behind the scenes of the opera world and to meet singers and conductors. The first meeting was held at The Arts Club last July when Martin Fitzpatrick, who is Head of Music at the ENO, gave a talk on “Prima la musica – a view from inside the music department of an opera house”, showing how an opera company gets from choosing an opera to performing it, and, in October, members enjoyed the launch party for the new season. More recently, on 30th March 2011, Jonathan Burton, who was Head of Surtitles at the Royal Opera House, explained the challenges of getting them to work.
